Ray Meier Linked With Right Winger John McHugh

Bad, bad, John McHugh is one of the meanest members of the U.S. House of Representatives. A genuine right wing radical, McHugh has voted to allow federally funded programs to fire workers just because they don't belong to the same religion as their boss. McHugh has voted to give the Secretary of Homeland Security the power to overrule American laws. McHugh has voted to hobble the Endangered Species Act. McHugh voted to kick American-born babies out of the country. The list of nasty right wing votes goes on and on.

John McHugh represents New York State's 23rd District, where he is facing a tough antiwar opponent, Dr. Bob Johnson. So what does McHugh have to do with us here in the 24th District?

John McHugh is the only member of Congress to give any money to Ray Meier's campaign - one thousand dollars. The hundreds of other members of the House and Senate won't have anything to do with Ray Meier. So, Ray Meier's one friend in Congress is a right wing extremist. That tells a lot about what we can expect from Ray Meier if he gets elected.

Thank you for focusing on Meier! Find out more about this likely successor to Boehlert at http://www.vote-smart.org/npat.php?can_id=BS040410 Then run like hell or do all you can to oppose him!!!!!

Thanks for bringing this back up, Norway. I wrote about this subject a while back - see:

http://takeback24.blogspot.com/2006/03/ray-meier-refuses-project-vote-smart.html

Ray Meier has consistently refused to cooperate with Project Vote Smart.

What is it that he wants to conceal from the voters.

Participation in the Project Vote Smart non-partisan issues questionnaire is a fundamental criterion for acceptability in this race.

don't their districts overlap?? (the state senate and CD25)

they might be even closer than we think.

Actually, John McHugh represents District 23. District 25 is represented by another nasty Republican, James Walsh. Dan Maffei is the likely Democratic nominee there.

that is my mistake, I meant to type district 23, same question though, don't they overlap?

Although Meier has refused to cooperate recently, you can view his old ratings (pre-2002) at Project Vote Smart. Worth a view.

The only thing the democrats have to emphasize is:

A vote for Meier is a vote for more of the same.

That is it. Forget all the other stuff.

Ray Meier is one of the worst things that has happened to Central New York. The county of Oneida has literally languished in his grubby paws during the years he has been busy helping himself and his friends. His legacy is pathetic as Senator and would be more pathetic as Congressman.

Let us not forget that as an incumbent State Senator, Meier has absolutely nothing to do all day, every day but politik. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the Senate was in recess until election day.

Ray Meier doesn't have to "give up his job" to run full time for Congress. He really doesn't have anything else he has to do.

How are you going to run part time against that and beat him?

The smirk of the entrenched legislator makes me sick and it is all over meier's face. With the argument that anyone who runs against one of these pigs must give up all income while the incumbent fiddles as usual, we might as well just fold and make them all emperors. Nobody in his Right Mind will run for office with no income for the better part of a year, unless of course it is an idle out of touch rich person, which in itself is exactly what we don't need more of in Congress.

First of all, you don't have to give up all income. You can draw a salary from the campaign and frankly devoting all your time to the campaign should reap a lot more money than your additional salary.

The bigger issue is that there are so few successful upstate Democratic congressmen that virtually nobody here has experience in running a successful Congressional campaign, much less any Congressional campaign. That's why so many poor decisions are being made. All the County party worker bees are busy acting as if this is a County race.

In our district, we have had the same old slug for so long, it's hard to even believe we are getting rid of him.

John McHugh has been a failure for the 23rd District in Congress; it should not come as any surprise that he and other Republicans pad each others accounts. 70% of McHugh's own campaign money not only comes from outside his district, but outside of New York state.
