I just wrote an article noting the pathetically thin online presence of the Brad Jones for Congress campaign. The three other significant candidates in this race have each established more of an impressive online footprint. As New York's 24th district race gains ever more attention on the national level, it's becoming possible to find discussion of our candidates in ever-more interesting nooks.
For example, this morning I found that Les Roberts has gained the attention of a group called Psychoanalysts for Peace and Justice, which wrote an article entitled, Les Roberts, of Lancet fame, running for Congress.
I don't know that anti-war psychoanalysts are a vital constituency in this race, but then again, every bit of publicity helps.

The first line says it all.
"I'm not sure what to make of this, but Les Roberts is running for Congress...".
anonymous @ 9.57: and your point is?
Maybe not much of a point. I never said that this group endorsed Les Roberts, just that he has gained their attention.
Should I write something more controversial, perhaps, so that 9:57 can have something more meaty to argue about?
I went on this site a while ago to try to find out why Arcuri supporters liked the guy. Got no response whatsoever. Now I have another question: What makes you think he can beat Ray Meier? R.s.v.p.

I'm from the UK so I guess you could say without a doubt that I maybe don't have an idea about or a write to comment on local U.S. politics. Surely as a democrat you must be ecstatic? Though I have to say I had a similiar experience last year in our national elections. Only thing is I ended up voting the guy! Frustrating as that was I couldn't have brought myself to vote labour or conservative and the lib dems were the only viable alternative to them. http://philippasdailynewsplanet.blogspot.com/
2:18--That doesn't seem to describe this district, however. We voted for a renegade Republican for a bazillion years. Or are you saying that ANY Democrat can now win ANY district, so POV/platform/antiwar status/energy plan doesn't matter? I guess I'm not that sanguine.
4:58 - I'm saying Meier can be beat because Bush has dragged the Republicans into a deep hole.
I don't doubt that Meier might possibly be beaten by SOMEONE. What makes you think he can be beaten by ARCURI? (And why is this so hard a question to answer?)
I'm starting to believe that the Republicans will win this seat again. Not just because the dems are so divided about who they support. Because the people that live in central new york are to darn stubborn to admit that they were mistaken for believing the lies that the republicans have fed them.
Instead of facing the truth that they were decieved and have supported a bad war and caused the country to be in the dung pile that it's in they'd rather go on believing that they were right, are right, and will be right by voting for Meier.
Look at the big story on TV2 news this week. Hate radio personality Lars Larson broadcast live from Hotel Utica. He had a nice little crowd to support him. So the local news talk station brings in the hate radio personality who's very popular and the "unbiased" TV2 news makes it their top story on several broadcasts over two days! Meanwhile the local hate paper, the OD, also covers that Larson was in town, and bolsters that with more coverage of Meier and the republican candidates for office!
Forget it! The gods could come down from paradise and run for office here and the elephant headed stubborn fools that live here would vote for the republican devil!
It's all over people! This was and is a republican district and will always be one.
curious - Meier can be beaten by Arcuri because Arcuri has run three kick butt campaigns, he's an Andrew Cuomo like enigma, and he's from Oneida County. What is so hard to understand about this? When is the swearing in ceremony anyway?
Arcuri has only had one race agains't an opponent. Running two campaigns unopposed is hardly "kick butt".
And "he's an Andrew Cuomo like enigma" - you're liking him to a man who can't win an election no matter how many offices he runs for??
Its so clear a democratic candidate can't win the 24th district; especially with supporters who are so clueless.
Curious~
to be perfectly honest I don't know if Meier can be beaten by Arcuri. What I do know is that Roberts would stand no chance. Not a knock on who he is, he is a nice, smart guy who can't win in my estimation.
Forgive me if I think an "enigma" couldn't even beat Brad Jones. We need someone who understands the issues and chooses sides, not a paint-by-numbers, whatever-you-want-is-what-you'll-see Andrew Cuomo clone! (Think back--how did Andy treat upstate when he headed up HUD?) Wow! What an endorsement!
As for Ima Syk--Lars Larsen got about as much coverage as his fellow Saga Communications radio group personality Al Franken did--for the same reasons, since I bet Saga was doing the promoting. I don't think that's necessarily a good indicator of which way the wind is blowing.
Re:"Supporters who are clueless". We all know you Roberts people are smart and everybody else is dumb. We all know you are the only people in the entire district who have education and have done well. All three of you. That is why when Arcuri kicks Roberts' butt in the primary, if there even is one, we will all remind you just how full of "clues" you all are.
1:36--I hardly think a Roberts supporter would be saying "Its so clear a democratic candidate can't win the 24th district," especially because a Roberts supporter, being so very educated compared to the rest of you, would know the difference betweeen It's and Its. A Roberts supporter would think that a Democratic candidate COULD win the 24th district--perhaps just not YOUR candidate. Don't assume that every negative comment on this site comes from a Roberts supporter. Read the whole comment before you knee-jerk react.
I also think it's rather sad that certain Arcuri supporters are putting forth the message: We're dumb, but we vote. What's THAT about?
For such incredibily "smart" people, you Roberts folks sure have a hard time with distinguishing satirical comments from reality.
