Tytler Typo Target of Dedicated Opponents

I don't mind admitting that I'm wrong. Early this morning, when an anonymous reader came on and noted that the FEC had Bruce Tytler listed under the 29th District, I went over to the FEC web site and looked through the images they had of the actual paperwork that Bruce Tytler filed. I reported that I had found documents in which Bruce Tytler had listed himself as a candidate in the 24th District, and showed a graphic of that paperwork.

Apparently, I didn't search hard enough through all that paperwork, for there was another document in which it appears that Bruce Tytler actually did type in District 29 as the place of his intended candidacy. Here's a picture of that document:

bruce tytler 29th district

So, it appears that Bruce Tytler listed the 24th District on some documents and the 29th District on other documents. Unlike a couple of the candidates who are running as Democrats in this race, I'm no lawyer, so I can't tell you what this means for the legal status of the Bruce Tytler campaign, but it all around doesn't look good.

This kind of inattention to detail can now be used as a legitimate campaign issue against Bruce Tytler by his opponents. I'll point out that Tytler seems to have some pretty dedicated opponents, too. The only nasty rumors in this race - about his wife's sexual activities, even - have been directed against Bruce Tytler. Now, there are people scanning his FEC filings looking for any little mistake.

It goes with the territory, I understand that, but I have to admit that I'm curious. Who has Bruce Tytler made so angry? Why are a few dedicated people doing whatever they can to bring Bruce Tytler down? I'm not a Cortland resident, so I admit to being completely in the dark on this one. Anyone who knows better is welcome to leave comments here with their thoughts on the matter.

There are very angry republicans who would like nothing more than to stick it to Cortland County Democrats because of the recent democratic landslide in the November election that exposed Cortland county republicans for what they really are: dictatorial no-nothings who still play heavy party politics. Could it be that this was, oh I don't know, just an accident? This is a red herring to distract from the real problems that are going on in the district because republicans are afraid that Bruce is not going to be painted as some push over, cower in the corner, soft on crime, soft on terrorism lefty tree hugger. He's going to do what we want our politicians to do: act. Does anyone know Sherry's response to child abuse recently? A stamp. This is a 12-term congressman who has more pull than some governors, and what does he do to address something that plagues our youth, the future of Cortland County? He moves for the issuance of a stamp. Whoopty-flippin’-do. I have the privilege to have worked with Bruce and he will get things done. He knows how to not just show up to vote himself a raise, but actually work in a bipartisan manner to get things done. We need to fix our state, then our nation, then we can help the world and Bruce has this vision and I am proud to say that he comes from our district and just doesn’t live here.

Reality check, Ny-dem says that Bruce Tytler knows how to do something other than vote himself a raise, the reality is that alderman Tytler proposed a mayoral raise just prior to his ascention to the mayor's position which was subsequently passed by a mostly democratic council despite oppostion. As a single term mayor with na mostly democratic council Bruce accomplihed nothing that would benefit the people of Cortland and would have had a difficult time being re-elected. He was mostly led by the nose of his cronies who were serving their own personel business

Bruce Tytler got the largest vote in Cortland history (at least in recent memory) for Mayor. He handily defeated Republican Bill Tucker who ran three times and who pulled out all the stops to try to beat him. Tucker was later charged with a felony for something involving his ex wife and pled to a lesser charge. All signs point to locals with personal axes to grind as being against Tytler. Bruce is a good honest guy who has the interests of the district in his heart. The anti Bruce faction has a vendetta but his integrity and passion to represent the district, and not see a campaign as the route to a job (a la Marty Mack ) will ring true

It is admitted that Bruce Tytler is a decent human being who has a problem surrounding himself with poor choices in polical cronies aka (walsh, wood, van donsel etc.). His single term as mayor was non-productive in part because he was being led by the agenda of his cronies. Bruce didn't prove to be his own man as mayor and I don't believe that will prove any different in his run for congress as he is still keeping the same company. People will have to judge for themselves when they look at the record Bruce's involvement in public service. I believe the question is; what record?

"Mostly democratic council" also spent significant time at the Common Council meetings on October 2 and October 16, 2001 discussing the $600 legal bill for an opinion on whether Mayor Tytler could fire Bill Wood. You can look this up online at the City's website. I guess it isn't bunk after all.
